How it works
A receipt.
A review.
The right record.
Keep the purchase, the property and the source document together, with a deliberate Save in between.

The complete walkthrough
Four steps. Nothing hidden.
Add the receipt.
Start with a photo, PDF or pasted screenshot. You can also enter an expense without a receipt. Our fictional example is a $48.60 replacement door latch from Sample Hardware on September 18, 2026.
Review and choose the property.
Check the extracted fields, correct anything that needs it, and add the context you’ll want later. Choose Pine House for this sample. Receipt reading can be wrong; review is part of the workflow.
Choose Save.
Final Save files the expense in the property’s managed Sheet and moves its attached receipt to the property’s Drive folder. A draft can be kept before this happens. Wait for a successful save before treating the expense as filed.
Open the record.
Open the property Sheet, find the expense, and follow its receipt link. Activity also lets you reopen a saved expense and preview its receipt. If the save is uncertain, use the original expense’s recovery controls rather than adding it twice.
Before you connect Google
Your destination.
Clear boundaries.
New properties get a managed Sheet and a receipt folder. Google authorization uses the drive.file scope for app-created or specifically selected files, alongside basic account identity. It does not request access to every file in your Drive.
Saved expenses and attached receipts live in your Google account. The web app uses cloud receipt reading, and app records, drafts, property mappings and usage information are also stored outside Drive. A saved receipt can inherit access from its destination folder.
Read the privacy policy before submitting documents, and check the sharing settings of both the Sheet and receipt folder before sharing records.
Current access
Explore first.
Connect when you’re ready.
The public sample is available without an account or an upload. App access is currently limited to authorized testing; a public access-request form is not yet available. Existing authorized testers can use Sign in in the navigation. Sign-in currently opens our existing application address while the new domain’s Google callback is being configured.
There is no charge for current access. Your account’s daily safety limits apply. Planned pricing does not activate a paid subscription or monthly allowance, and any future charge requires your explicit choice.
Use fictional sample documents for testing. Production provider handling for real external receipt intake still needs verification.
Good to know
The practical details.
What can I add?
Images and PDFs up to 10 MB, a pasted screenshot, or an expense entered without a receipt. Large photos may be resized on your device before upload.
Can I keep an existing Google Sheet?
New properties get a managed Sheet. Receipt Janitor does not map expenses into arbitrary workbook layouts. Previously connected Sheets remain available where supported by your account.
What if a receipt detail is wrong?
Review and edit the date, amount, merchant and description before saving. A category does not decide tax treatment. Leave unclear facts visible rather than guessing.
Which currency is supported?
Expenses are recorded in USD. For another currency, enter the USD amount you were charged and keep the supporting details.
What happens if I leave before finishing?
The app keeps a draft as you work. Unfinished drafts can be recovered for seven days after the last edit, subject to receipt availability. If an upload did not finish or its file is no longer available, add it again. A draft is not a final Sheet entry.
What if I am not sure an expense saved?
Open the original expense in Activity and choose Check when offered. Use Retry when offered, and inspect the result before entering the purchase again. If the outcome stays unclear, get help.
How do I share or download records?
Open the property Sheet and use Google’s Download or Share controls. A recipient needs access to both the Sheet and its receipt folder. Downloading a Sheet does not download its linked receipt files.
Is the iPhone app publicly available?
Public App Store availability has not been announced. Current native distribution is limited to authorized testing.
Does this prepare my taxes?
No. Receipt Janitor helps capture and organize expense records. Tax treatment and filing depend on your circumstances and require their own review.
